Well the past 4-5 months have been life changing. I had a health issue that transformed me and woke me up from my comatose sleep.
I realized today that I've been cocooning as far as music goes. My next gig singing gig is in May at Tressas, thanks to Peggy Ratutz. The past few months, I've been painting acrylics and recently writing for an African American Women's Collective project.
The teaching/sharing side of music & me, begins next week at the IRL after school program in collaboration with Leaf in Schools and Streets. I will be working with middle school children. We'll be doing African drumming with a lil culture here and there. My bandmate, Nancy Asch will be joining me in this venture.
Today I took out the keyboard and found some good rhythms I liked. I even attempted and found a couple of pleasant chords to play along with the rhythm. I feel very humbled right now.
I had a wonderful experience at Eblen Intermediate School. They had their very first Black History Month. Yvonne Chambers was the mover and shaker of this event. Jonathan Santos, Nadirah Radman, and I shared the stage for a large group of 5th and 6th graders. They were a fabulous audience! It was great to be part of a momentous occasion.
